Artist Statement:
Dr. Nadine M. Cuffy is a New York State licensed clinical psychologist who, for the last twelve years, has steadily re-invented herself into the fiber artist she is today. As a passionate advocate for embracing and pursuing one's dream, Nadine has immersed herself in her love of all things fabric and fiber.
A self-taught fiber artist, Nadine's work reveals her comfort with, and love for both the traditional and the contemporary art quilt. Varied ethnic motifs, bold color, compelling design, and sense of play characterize her creations. The combination of multicultural design elements is found throughout her body of work as well. Most pieces are richly embellished, hand appliquéd and quilted. A variety of different textiles are used, including fabrics from all over the world in addition to the artist's own hand-painted and hand-dyed fabric.
Nadine's work has been exhibited in many different venues and she has taught a variety of classes. She was awarded two artist's grants for her work and has a permanent installation of an art quilt (Thelma's Sky) at Francis House; a hospice facility. She was also commissioned to design and install a commemorative quilt for World AIDS Day (1999). In December, 2007 her Kwanzaa Quilt was featured on a PBS talk show. The launch of
