Artist Statement
As an artist I maintain a firm belief in the words of William Hogarth, a picture being worth 12 volumes. No political, religious or cultural movement has ever attained ascendancy without the implementation of artistic propaganda.
The art I have created over the last 20 years has evolved predominantly from the combined influences of symbolism and Post-Renaissance Mannerism.
Reactions to my paintings vary and I have concluded that what I am representing cannot be discerned by rationalizing. When I depict male nudity with physical pain and suffering the rational mind finds it difficult to transcend the Homo-erotic/sado-masochistic elements. However, before "civilization" deemed our sexual organs to be reprehensible they were depicted in religious art as vital. We hold the conviction that pain and suffering must be avoided at all cost and disregard the actuality that these two components of life form the heart of most of the children's stories we grow up with and are the nucleus of all Grail romances in the ancient stories of all cultures. The rational mind usually concludes blasphemy when confronted with the imagery that depicts the antics of formal religions, which at times incorporates the aforementioned elements. However, the hoarding of colossal wealth in the face of colossal amounts of poverty and starvation in the name of God is at worst, considered a necessary evil.
My political paintings for the most part, demonstrate the hell bent mission of world conquest by white Europe resulting in the subsequent genocide or enslavement of races far more culturally advanced then themselves. If we rationalize while absorbing their content, they are construed as an attack on "Civilization" without which there would be no "progress".
The means always justifies the ends. However, if we reflect on the one mandate that anchors all religious thought, we can only conclude that the means always negates the ends. Love each other as yourself. What we do to each other, we do to ourselves and our own heart will keep our own record for our own fate.
